Roslindale residents have a good time ‘unique’ neighborhood in forty ninth annual parade

Date:

Roslindale residents introduced out their boisterous neighborhood pleasure for a sunny, heat parade Sunday afternoon.

“We get a little lost on the edge of the city, but Roslindale’s a beautiful, unique neighborhood,” stated resident Alice Walter, celebrating with a gaggle on South Avenue as a spherical of bagpipers neared. “It has so much more to offer than people know, and the community’s great. … I’m glad to be here.”

The forty ninth annual Thomas M. Donahue Roslindale Day Parade, named after the previous president of the parade committee and champion of the neighborhood, kicked off in 1975, occurring on the primary or second Sunday of each October.

The march of revelers began off at 1 p.m. winding from South Avenue across the neighborhood to complete at Robert Avenue.

Sunday’s celebration included a wide selection of musical acts from marching bands to DJs, neighborhood organizations, dancers twirling batons and extra. A number of public figures — together with native Mayor Michelle Wu in her house neighborhood — and candidates waved alongside as town heads nearer to the November election.

Regardless of the new climate, early indicators of Halloween festivities got here out too, with skeletons hanging out of vehicles and costumes galore.

“Summer came back just for us for a day,” stated Sam Collins, a resident of the realm for over 20 years, standing within the round 80 diploma warmth. “It’s a beautiful day through. Nice to get outside and see everyone together.”

Requested what her favourite half was Sunday, 6-year-old Roslindale resident Sadie smiled and stated, “All of it!”
