Nantucket seashores reopen after Winery Wind particles removing; feds concern ‘Suspension Order’ for wind power firm

Date:

All Nantucket seashores reopened to swimming on Wednesday after lifeguards and employees eliminated a great deal of particles from the Winery Wind broken turbine incident.

The island’s southern-facing seashores had shut all the way down to swimming the day earlier than as giant floating particles and sharp fiberglass shards from the turbine washed ashore.

“The Town of Nantucket announces that all south shore beaches have been reopened for swimming and recreational activities after extensive debris recovery efforts,” the city mentioned in a press release on Wednesday.

The vast majority of the particles has been cleared. Nevertheless, lifeguards have been persevering with to watch the water for any remaining floating particles.

“While the beaches are now open, visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear while walking along the beach,” the city mentioned. “Please continue to leave pets at home to ensure their safety.”

Lifeguards and employees have been clearing the particles, carrying acceptable footwear and PPE when dealing with it.

In the meantime on Wednesday, the feds mentioned they’d issued a “Suspension Order” for Winery Wind to stop energy manufacturing from all its wind turbine turbines “until it can be determined whether the blade failure affects any other VW turbines.”

“The Suspension Order suspends power production on the lease area and suspends installation of new wind turbine generator construction: Those operations will remain shut down until the suspension is lifted,” the Bureau of Security and Environmental Enforcement mentioned in a press release.

“BSEE has also issued a Preservation Order to safeguard any evidence that may be relevant to determining the cause of the incident,” the feds added.

There have been no reported accidents or hurt to any marine assets or mammals from the incident.

“BSEE is onsite with Vineyard Wind as investigations are underway,” the federal company mentioned. “BSEE will conduct an independent assessment to ensure the safety of future offshore renewable energy operations.”
