Corrections officer arrested for allegedly smuggling illicit narcotics into jail

A Massachusetts correction officer was arrested for allegedly smuggling medication into the MCI-Shirley jail over the weekend, the Division of Correction introduced Sunday.

Correction Officer Roxsandra Wright was arrested on Saturday, the DOC mentioned, after an investigation uncovered proof the officer allegedly introduced artificial cannabinoid-laced paper into MCI-Shirley.

“The Massachusetts Department of Correction holds all staff members to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” DOC Interim Commissioner Shawn Jenkins mentioned. “Any behavior that compromises the safety and security of our facilities, or undermines public trust, will not be tolerated.”

An ongoing investigation into the smuggling of unlawful narcotics into DOC services, carried out collectively by the Massachusetts State Police Joint Narcotics Process Drive and DOC, discovered Wright allegedly delivered medication to a prisoner in MCI-Shirley.

Wright was arrested on a felony warrant issued by Ayer District Courtroom and charged. DOC didn’t specify prices Sunday, directing inquiries to the Middlesex DA.

The division said that Wright resigned weeks forward of the fees, which took impact Oct. 31.

To discourage and intercept illicit substances, DOC mentioned workers use screening know-how, operational protocols, and collaboration with legislation enforcement companions. The division famous they “continually adapts” protocols as new threats emerge.

“The DOC remains dedicated to creating a secure, supportive environment for all who live and work within its facilities,” the division said. “Recognizing the risks that contraband poses to the safety and health of both staff and incarcerated individuals, the DOC has implemented a comprehensive, multi-layered approach to prevent the introduction of illicit substances.”
