Gloucester lecturers’ strike ends whereas negotiations persist in Beverly, Marblehead

After being out of the classroom for greater than two weeks, college students in Gloucester, one of many three North Shore cities hit with a lecturers’ strike, will return to high school on Monday.

The Gloucester College Committee reached a contract settlement Friday with the Union of Gloucester Educators, ending a strike that started Nov. 8.

“This agreement accomplishes our primary goals from the start of these negotiations – a significant and necessary adjustment in paraprofessional wages, a meaningful increase to teacher pay, and expanded benefits including new paid parental leave,” College Committee Chairwoman Kathy Clancy stated in a press release.

“These contracts reflect our deep commitment, appreciation and respect for educators and show a great investment in public education in Gloucester,” Clancy added. “We look forward to working together to best serve the students of Gloucester.”

Strikes are persevering with in Beverly and Marblehead.
