Suffolk DA: ‘Major player’ at Mass and Cass drug market sentenced to 9-10 years in jail

Suffolk District Lawyer Kevin Hayden stated a “major player” within the Mass and Cass drug market was sentenced to a 9-10-year jail sentence after pleading responsible to firearm and drug trafficking costs.

Keon Leary, 45, pleaded responsible, on the day his trial was set to start on Tuesday, to carrying a firearm with out a license (third offense), carrying a loaded firearm with out a license, possession of a firearm whereas committing a felony, trafficking cocaine over 200 grams, trafficking fentanyl over 36 grams, and distributing a Class B substance (subsequent offense),” the Suffolk DA’s workplace stated.

“Keon Leary has been a major player in the Mass and Cass drug market for years, and I’m incredibly grateful for assistance from the community that led to his arrest and conviction,” Hayden stated Wednesday. “This is yet another example of solid results from cooperation between police, prosecutors and community members.”

Boston Police carried out a “buy and bust” operation within the space of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard, on the morning of Aug. 12, 2022, after receiving stories of Leary usually being parked within the space of Hope Home, positioned at 8 Farnham St. shopping for and promoting medication, the DA’s workplace stated.

Leary was arrested after officers noticed a drug deal on the nook of Gerard Avenue. Upon his arrest, officers seized two backpacks containing 248.18 grams of cocaine, 22.22 grams of fentanyl, 15.57 grams of fluorofentanyl and .43 grams of valerylfentanyl.

Police additionally recovered a black Taurus PT22 loaded with 9 rounds and $8,994 in money, the DA’s workplace stated.

Leary was sentenced to 9-10 years in jail, with three years of probation to observe, prosecutors stated.

Hayden stated Leary’s arrest happened, partly, via a tip from the neighborhood.
