MIT faces Division of Schooling investigation for alleged ‘race-exclusionary’ discrimination

MIT is the most recent native college that’s being focused by the Trump administration for alleged discrimination.

The Cambridge college is amongst 45 colleges which can be dealing with a Division of Schooling investigation for allegedly participating in “race-exclusionary practices” of their graduate packages.

The Friday announcement from the Division of Schooling’s Workplace for Civil Rights concerning the Title VI investigations comes after the federal company launched probes into establishments the place there was alleged widespread antisemitic harassment.

Along with MIT, different Northeast colleges on the alleged race discrimination checklist are the College of Rhode Island, Yale College, and NYU.

“The Department is working to reorient civil rights enforcement to ensure all students are protected from illegal discrimination,” U.S. Secretary of Schooling Linda McMahon mentioned in a press release. “The agency has already launched Title VI investigations into institutions where widespread antisemitic harassment has been reported and Title IX investigations into entities which allegedly continue to allow sex discrimination.

“Today’s announcement expands our efforts to ensure universities are not discriminating against their students based on race and race stereotypes,” McMahon added. “Students must be assessed according to merit and accomplishment, not prejudged by the color of their skin. We will not yield on this commitment.”

MIT didn’t instantly reply to touch upon Friday.

The investigations into the 45 universities follows the company’s “Dear Colleague Letter” that reiterated colleges’ civil rights obligations to finish using racial preferences and stereotypes in education schemes and actions.

Colleges have been warned within the letter that they might lose federal funding in the event that they don’t adjust to federal civil rights legislation.
