Bronze plaques from headstones at an area cemetery had been lately stolen, based on police who’re asking the general public for assist in the investigation.
Newburyport Police over the weekend obtained experiences of two gravestones that seemed to be broken and vandalized at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Police had been informed that the gravestones from the late 1800s appeared to have had their plaques and headstones forcibly eliminated.
One plaque commemorates English-born writer James Parton, who wrote biographies of outstanding American political figures. The opposite gravesite is dedicated to members of the Dodge household.
“The theft of bronze plaques from headstones at Oak Hill Cemetery is a deeply disturbing act that shows a complete disregard for the memory of those laid to rest and their families,” Metropolis Marshal Matthew Simons mentioned in a press release.
“I am hopeful that someone may come forward with information that will lead to accountability for those responsible,” Simons added.
Police consider that the theft occurred someday final week. There have been no different experiences of vandalism or lacking headstones at different cemeteries in Newburyport.
