Ticker: Brandeis College names everlasting president; Chinatown undertaking brings housing, library department

Brandeis College in Waltham has put in Arthur Levine as its everlasting president.

The set up comes days after Levine unveiled his “Brandeis Plan to Reinvent the Liberal Arts,” which was developed in partnership with the college’s school, and integrates profession preparation into each stage of a scholar’s training.

“We are living through a time of extraordinary change across technology, the economy, and society,” Levine stated. “Today’s students need more than knowledge. They need the skills, experiences, and confidence to lead in a world we cannot yet predict. We are advancing a new model. We need reinvention. And that is exactly what Brandeis is establishing.”

Chinatown is subsequent up for housing with 110 inexpensive properties and a brand new everlasting Chinatown department of the Boston Public Library coming to the neighborhood by turning a city-owned parking zone right into a neighborhood anchor.

The 12-story, mixed-use constructing will embody 66 inexpensive rental residences and 44 inexpensive homeownership items, constructed above a two-story, 17,000-square-foot library. “This development fulfills a decades-long request from Chinatown residents for a permanent library while ensuring that working families can continue to call the neighborhood home,” Boston officers introduced.

Chinatown has not had a everlasting library department in almost 70 years.

“This is a truly historic day,” stated David Leonard, President of the Boston Public Library. “After nearly 70 years, it is time to return a permanent branch library to the Chinatown community.”
