The USS Structure fired off a 21-gun salute to commemorate Presidents Day Monday.
The normal blasts from the canons on board the world’s oldest commissioned oldest warship, sounded off at midday. President George Washington, whose birthday Presidents Day celebrates, named the ship after the doc that defines our nation.
The USS Structure, nicknamed Previous Ironsides, performed an important function within the Barbary Wars and the Battle of 1812, safeguarding American sea lanes from 1797 to 1855.
The warship is open without spending a dime public visitation Wednesday by means of Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All visitors 18 and older should current a sound state- or federally-issued picture ID or passport to board.
