Andover rep to run for congressional seat being exited by Moulton

Date:

Rep. Tram Nguyen needs to change out her seat within the Massachusetts Home for one in Congress.

The Andover Democrat on Thursday launched her marketing campaign for the seat U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton is giving up as a consequence of his run for U.S. Senate. She got here to the U.S. as a refugee when she was 5 years previous as her household fled Vietnam’s authoritarian regime and arrived right here “with only $100 and a dream,” her marketing campaign mentioned.

“I’m running for Congress to restore faith in our democracy and to take on the challenges that keep families awake at night: the rising cost of living, the urgent need for affordable housing, and the relentless attacks on our Constitution and civil rights by the MAGA movement,” Nguyen mentioned in her opening marketing campaign assertion. “Our communities deserve a proven fighter who knows how to stand up to extremism and deliver real results, and I’m ready to take on the fight at the national level to save our democracy.”

In 2019, Nguyen toppled Republican Rep. Jim Lyons, who went on to chair the state Republican Get together, and she or he has represented the individuals of Andover, Boxford, North Andover and Tewksbury on Beacon Hill since 2019.

Nguyen’s marketing campaign is asking her “one of the state legislature’s most effective fundraisers” and touting her community of pals and supporters tied to her research at Tufts College, Northeastern College Faculty of Legislation and the Harvard Kennedy Faculty. As an lawyer at Larger Boston Authorized Providers, she represented survivors of home violence and sexual assault, veterans, immigrants, low-wage staff and folks with disabilities.
