Trance titan Armin van Buuren has formally entered drum & bass territory—and he did not come alone. He is teamed up with Pendulum and the band’s frontman, Rob Swire, to launch a blistering rework of final month’s progressive home launch, “Sound of You.”
This time round, the music hits with the unmistakable grit of drum & bass. Whereas the brand new rework maintains the melodic punch of its predecessor’s construct, it rapidly veers into uncharted territory for van Buuren. The drop represents a full-blown style pivot that belies the Dutchman’s newcomer standing within the drum & bass world.
“Drum & bass isn’t my usual space, but I had some ideas and it was a no-brainer to collaborate closely with Pendulum on this version,” van Buuren stated in a press launch. “Being in the studio together made all the difference.”
The collaboration is becoming. Pendulum constructed its legacy on style fusion—metallic, drum & bass and past—and continues to ship boundary-breaking units. Their new model of “Sound of You” provides one more stylistic badge to van Buuren’s crowded sash, reinforcing his standing as an digital music icon unafraid of evolution.
