Boston police officer shot in arm in shootout with suspect in Roxbury

A Boston Police officer and a suspected prison have been each injured in a shootout in Roxbury early Friday morning, police say.

“We’re extremely, deeply proud of the officers for what they do daily and we’re very, very lucky and fortunate that there was no loss of life today,” Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox stated from the scene.

In line with a Boston Police Division assertion, officers approached a bunch of “suspicious individuals” within the park at Dudley and Washington streets in Roxbury at round 12:45 a.m. Friday. Upon their method, one member of the group fled and officers pursued.

When officers rounded Kenilworth Road, based on the BPD assertion, the suspect fired at them and the officers fired again. One officer was shot within the arm, based on Cox, and the suspect was shot “multiple times.”

Each the officer and the suspect have been taken to separate hospitals to be handled for non-life-threatening accidents.

“Tonight is another reminder of the kinds of risks our officers face 24 hours a day,” Mayor Michelle Wu stated from the scene. “I am incredibly proud and thankful for their service and all that they put into taking care of our community members and making sure everyone is safe.”

Police say that the suspect is underneath arrest on the hospital. Police say they’ll launch extra info later. A BPD spokesman says the injured officer’s title is not going to be launched.
