As school college students return to city and head to native bars and nightclubs, police are once more warning college students and the general public to be careful for spiked drinks and roofies.
“With the first weekend of the school year coming up, the Department would like to remind all students and the public of the dangerousness of scentless, colorless, and tasteless drugs such as Rohypnol, also known as roofie, being placed in the drinks of unsuspecting victims,” Boston Police wrote in a group alert.
Different medicine generally used similarly are GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) or Ketamine.
These medicine and substances could cause disorientation, confusion, non permanent paralysis, or unconsciousness, together with a bunch of different signs, “leaving the potential victim vulnerable to the intentions of the suspect,” police stated.
“While the BPD encourages everyone to look out for each other when gathered in social settings by creating a ‘buddy system’ to prevent getting separated, there are steps you can take on your own to help ensure your personal safety,” BPD added.
These steps embody: ensuring that your drink is being served instantly by the bartender or your server; watching your drink always; holding your hand lined over your drink while you’re not taking a look at it; and testing your drink with take a look at strips or nail polish that mild up a sure shade in the event that they detect medicine.
