Sunday is Worldwide Overdose Consciousness Day, and people who frequent the Boston Frequent have already witnessed the memorial to lives misplaced within the commonwealth.
Volunteers have been supported by the Boston Public Health Fee and the town Parks and Recreation Division in planting greater than 20,000 purple flags within the park to memorialize those that have died within the opioid epidemic.
“Opioid overdose deaths are tragic, and avoidable,” mentioned Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, the town’s public well being commissioner. “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made in reducing fatal overdoses in our city, and the best way we can honor the lives tragically cut short by the opioid crisis is by continuing to increase access to harm reduction services and treatment for those living with substance use disorder.”
Along with the purple flags, Boston may also gentle up Metropolis Corridor in purple Sunday evening.
“Today we are honoring the lives lost to fatal overdoses that have touched every corner of Boston’s communities,” mentioned Mayor Michelle Wu.
