Celebrating Juneteenth in Boston: Pictures

Juneteenth was commemorated throughout the nation on Thursday, together with in Boston at Roxbury Heritage State Park.

The vacation included a flag-raising on the Dillaway-Thomas Home and a parade.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 that Union troopers reached Galveston, Texas. They introduced to the state that the Civil Struggle was over and that every one enslaved individuals had been declared free.

Though the Emancipation Proclamation had develop into official over two years prior, the establishment of slavery remained untouched in areas past Union management. In taking management over the state, the Union successfully liberated the remaining slaves in Texas.

There will even be a Juneteenth Neighborhood Celebration at Franklin Park (Shattuck picnic space) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
