Chinatown streets had been stuffed with the colourful sights and sounds of the August Moon Competition as soon as once more Sunday afternoon.
The annual August Moon Competition held in Boston’s Chinatown introduced out a mass of enthusiastic residents, native distributors, Asian people and lion dancers, Chinese language opera performers and plenty of extra to rejoice the vacation.
The competition was placed on by the Chinese language Consolidated Benevolent Affiliation (CCBA) of New England all through the neighborhood from 10 a.m. to five p.m.
The celebrations are one of many “greatest Chinese festivals, the CCBA wrote of the festival, “second only to the Chinese New Year.”
“Since the arrival of autumn is thought to be a propitious season and the weather is usually conducive to good health and enjoyment, the August Moon Festival is a festival of joy and health,” the CCBA mentioned. “The August Moon Festival is also known as the Harvest Festival, a time of thanks for the harvest and good crops.”
The celebrations come as Boston’s competition season remains to be in excessive gear. Upcoming free festivals embrace the North Finish Fisherman’s Feast from Aug. 15 to Aug. 18, the African Competition of Boston on the Boston Widespread from Aug. 17 to Aug. 18 and St. Anthony’s Feast within the North Finish from Aug. 24 to Aug. 27.
