U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan’s house was the topic of a bomb menace Saturday morning that prompted native and state police to go looking her residence for any threats, the federal lawmaker stated in a press release.
Trahan, a Lowell Democrat, stated she and her household are protected after she was “made aware” of the bomb menace.
Officers from the Westford Police Division and the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad responded to the residence and located “no active threat” after they had been “made aware” of the menace round 8:15 a.m., based on Westford Police Cpt. Michael Breault.
“I am grateful to the excellent officers at the Westford Police Department who responded swiftly to make sure we were safe and who are now working with the United States Capitol Police and Massachusetts State Police regarding this incident,” Trahan stated in a press release. “It’s a good time to say the obvious: threats of violence and intimidation have no place in our country.”
The bomb menace was despatched on to the Westford Police Division through electronic mail, Breault stated. Breault didn’t present particulars of the sender, citing an lively investigation.
“As soon as we were made aware of it and received it, we responded to her residence, notified Massachusetts State Police bomb squad, notified U.S. Capitol Police, and the residence was checked by State Police bomb squad. They cleared it. There was no active threat there,” Breault informed the Herald.
Breault stated the Westford Police Division is following up with state police and america Capitol Police “to actively investigate this and try to locate a perpetrator.”
Spokespeople for the Massachusetts State Police and United States Capitol Police didn’t instantly reply to Herald inquiries.
Trahan has represented Massachusetts’ Third Congressional District since 2019 and is a co-chair of the Home Democratic Coverage and Communications Committee. She can be a member of the Home Vitality and Commerce Committee.
Trahan shouldn’t be the primary federal lawmaker to obtain a bomb menace over the previous month.
Six Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut had been focused on Thanksgiving by bomb threats at their properties.
Sen. Chris Murphy and Reps. Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, Jahana Hayes, and Rosa DeLauro reported the threats. Regulation enforcement authorities discovered no proof of explosives on their properties.
