Dartmouth suspends frat, sorority after pupil dies as police examine hazing allegations

Dartmouth Faculty has suspended a frat and sorority after a pupil died following a joint social gathering over the weekend, as police examine hazing allegations.

The Beta Alpha Omega fraternity and Alpha Phi sorority have been suspended by the New Hampshire faculty after 20-year-old Gained Jang was discovered useless within the Connecticut River on Sunday.

“Dartmouth has suspended two Greek organizations, Beta Alpha Omega and Alpha Phi, as the investigation continues, and we are working closely with the Hanover Police Department, which is leading the investigation,” a Dartmouth spokesperson stated in an announcement on Tuesday.

Hanover police and fireplace departments responded to a report of a lacking Dartmouth pupil on Sunday at round 3:15 p.m.

Jang had final been seen by the docks of the river at round 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

First responders discovered Jang’s physique about 65 ft offshore at round 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“The entire Dartmouth community is grieving over the tragic loss of Won Jang,” the Dartmouth spokesperson stated. “Our counseling team has been by the family’s side since yesterday, and Dartmouth is providing every possible support it can to Won’s parents, family and friends.”

The preliminary police investigation revealed that foul play just isn’t suspected, however Hanover Police are wanting into the studies of hazing.

“There is some evidence of some alcohol involved, certainly from witnesses,” Hanover Police Charles Dennis advised WMUR.

“We did receive an anonymous email this morning through the college that there may be some hazing involved,” he added. “So certainly we will look into that aspect, too.”
