A Milford highschool scholar arrested by ICE officers in search of his father has been ordered launched on bond by an immigration choose throughout a listening to Thursday.
Decide Jenny Beverly on the federal immigration courtroom in Chelmsford set bond at $2,000 for Marcelo Gomes da Silva throughout a listening to this afternoon.
Gomes da Silva was arrested on his option to volleyball observe Saturday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement brokers.
Authorities have stated the brokers had been in search of the Milford Excessive College teenager’s father, who owns the automobile Gomes da Silva was driving on the time and had parked in a buddy’s driveway.
His immigration lawyer, Robin Good of the regulation agency McHaffey & Good, stated Gomes da Silva lawfully entered the U.S. when he was simply 7-years-old, and has since developed deep roots in his neighborhood. He’s energetic in his church, a member of his highschool’s band and volleyball group, and is often “surrounded by friends, teachers, and mentors who care deeply about him.”
Gomes da Silva appeared in courtroom Thursday by way of zoom. He was being held in federal custody in Plymouth.
Good instructed the choose Thursday that Gomes was “clean as a whistle.”
U.S. Division of Homeland Safety spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin stated earlier this week that ICE officers had been concentrating on a “known public safety threat” and that Gomes da Silva’s father “has a habit of reckless driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour through residential areas.”
“While ICE officers never intended to apprehend Gomes da Silva, he was found to be in the United States illegally and subject to removal proceedings, so officers made the arrest,” she stated in an announcement.
