Digital dance music has formally dethroned rock because the dominant style at America’s premier music festivals, in response to new information analyzing a decade of bookings.
The information was compiled by Reserving Agent Data from artists who had been formally booked on the lineups of Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Austin Metropolis Limits, Outdoors Lands, Governors Ball and Summerfest from 2015 to 2025. The location utilized its personal style classifications and used Apple Music as a tiebreaker in multi-genre edge circumstances. The evaluation, they stated, “measures programming trends—not artist performance, attendance, or ticket sales.”
The research says digital acts claimed 192 distinctive artists and 220 performances in 2025, marking the primary time the style has surpassed rock in main pageant programming. The style’s resurgence started in earnest in 2022 with 205 performances by 169 distinctive artists, climbing steadily to succeed in historic highs by 2025 with 227 performances and 199 distinctive artists, essentially the most within the dataset’s 10-year span. Rock music misplaced over 90 distinctive artists and almost 150 performances in that timeframe, in response to the analysis.

The numbers paint an image of pageant organizers responding to post-pandemic audiences craving the escapism and euphoria that digital music uniquely gives.
“This trajectory mirrors the broader post-pandemic appetite for high-energy, immersive live experiences,” the evaluation notes. “Electronic music — from EDM to techno to bass-heavy hybrids — offered festivalgoers the escape and euphoria they were craving.”
Dance and digital artists took the lion’s share of the 2025 Coachella lineup, EDM.com reported again in April. They commanded 39% of the enduring pageant’s billing, almost doubling the 21% clip for indie, rock and various acts.
