Extreme thunderstorms have been pulling down timber and energy strains throughout the area Friday afternoon.
The Nationwide Climate Service’s Boston workplace had issued a “Severe Thunderstorm Warning” for the Boston-area, because the storms introduced 60 mph wind gusts and torrential rain.
“Several reports of downed trees and powerlines have been reported between 125 and 130 PM in the towns of Cambridge, Arlington and Medford,” NWS wrote.
“Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees,” the company added.
Steady cloud to floor lightning was occurring with these storms.
“For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building,” NWS wrote.
“Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature’s leading killers,” NWS added. “Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning… Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.”
