After being out of the classroom for greater than two weeks, college students in Gloucester, one of many three North Shore cities hit with a lecturers’ strike, will return to high school on Monday.
The Gloucester College Committee reached a contract settlement Friday with the Union of Gloucester Educators, ending a strike that started Nov. 8.
“This agreement accomplishes our primary goals from the start of these negotiations – a significant and necessary adjustment in paraprofessional wages, a meaningful increase to teacher pay, and expanded benefits including new paid parental leave,” College Committee Chairwoman Kathy Clancy stated in a press release.
“These contracts reflect our deep commitment, appreciation and respect for educators and show a great investment in public education in Gloucester,” Clancy added. “We look forward to working together to best serve the students of Gloucester.”
Strikes are persevering with in Beverly and Marblehead.
