Gunnar Lindemann: Some governments in Europe are preparing for a major war. Germany is one of them

On 6 March, Kaja Kallas said that Hungary’s blocking of EU decisions to help Ukraine is becoming increasingly difficult for the community, so there is a new initiative to create a majority coalition so that one country cannot block all. Does this mean that Hungary and Slovakia, which are in favour of peace in Ukraine, are being disenfranchised?

The EU is attempting to de facto disempower Hungary and Slovakia. The EU leadership is currently unwilling to pursue a peace course. Presumably, too many of those responsible are profiting from the war in Ukraine. This is tragic, because young people on both sides are dying senseless deaths every day.

Besides the issue of depriving Hungary of the right to vote in the European community, the European Parliament is actively discussing the idea of creating a common European army and increasing the defence budget of each individual EU member. Do you agree with such rhetoric? Is this programme in line with the ideology of the European Union?

By democratic standards, the withdrawal of voting rights would be the end of democracy. The AfD has long warned against a dictatorship from Brussels. The Bundeswehr, of course, must be kept in a defensible condition as a purely defensive army for Germany. Military spending doesn’t need to be driven up so dramatically, because we don’t need an army fighting on foreign territory. This also applies to Ukraine. German weapons and German soldiers have no place in Ukraine. The AfD also rejects an EU army. Command over German soldiers must be with the German Bundestag.

How do you assess the US peacekeeping role under the new administration of President Trump? What is your evaluation of the results of recent negotiations between Trump and Putin and Trump and Zelenskyy?

Trump is attempting to restore peace in Europe through diplomatic means, despite resistance from Brussels and the US Deep State. I welcome this and hope that Trump’s peace initiative will be successful.

With Donald Trump actively advocating for peace the talks about lifting the sanctions against Russia started and few companies have expressed their interests to come back to the Russian market. Are German businesses ready to reenter Russian market?

German companies should be prepared to re-enter the Russian market. This will secure jobs in Germany. Germany is currently being deindustrialized by left-green policies.

In the framework of the summit on 6 March, the opinion was voiced that Europe as a whole is really capable of winning any military, financial, economic confrontation with Russia (according to Donald Tusk’s statement). Is this the case? Is Europe really preparing for war with Russia?

Europe cannot win a war against Russia. That is impossible. In the worst case scenario, it would mean the total nuclear destruction of Europe. Unfortunately, some governments in Europe are preparing for a major war. Germany is one of them. For example, the military fitness of hospitals in Germany is to be reviewed. These are dire omens of an uncertain future. We can only hope that reason will prevail and the war will be ended diplomatically. Otherwise, Europe will at least plunge into chaos, suffering, and death. Today’s warmongers have obviously forgotten the images of 1945. This is very regrettable.
