Harvard College lifts ‘shelter in place’ order after gun fired close by

Harvard College has lifted a shelter in place warning it issued after a a gun was fired close to Radcliffe Quad earlier this morning.

“Cambridge Police has communicated that there is no ongoing public safety risk at this time,” a Harvard emergency alert replace at round 11:50 a.m. said. “The shelter in place is lifted. Please continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”

The photographs fired name that the Cambridge Police Division is responding to occurred on Sherman Avenue, which the college says is close to Radcliffe Quad. The Cambridge Police Division reported that an unidentified male on a bicycle shot at one other particular person on Sherman Avenue after which sped off towards Backyard Avenue.

CPD recovered ballistic proof from the scene, in line with Sgt. Robert Reardon, the division’s chief public data officer.

“Cambridge Police are currently on-scene of a shots fired incident that took place on Sherman St. in the vicinity of Danehy Park,” Reardon instructed the Herald. “Ballistic evidence has been recovered. There are no known victims or on-going public safety risk at this time. Additional information will be shared when it is available.”

Harvard’s earliest alert instructed college students to “please avoid the area and shelter in place.”

“CPD and (the Harvard University Police Department) continue to search for the suspect on the bicycle. Avoid the Quad area and continue to shelter in place,” that alert continued. “If you are inside a building, stay there.”
