The Trump administration has focused Harvard amongst dozens of different universities in what it claims is an investigation into “anti-semitism” on campus and so-called Variety, Fairness and Inclusion practices. “[The administration’s letter] makes clear that the intention is not to work with us to address antisemitism in a cooperative and constructive manner,” Garber wrote in a public assertion on Monday. “Although some of the demands outlined by the government are aimed at combating antisemitism, the majority represent direct governmental regulation of the ‘intellectual conditions’ at Harvard.”
This “goes beyond the power of the federal government,” Garber wrote, by violating the First Modification and exceeding “the statutory limits of the government’s authority under Title VI,” of the Civil Rights Act.
Whereas the Harvard letter doesn’t state that the college will go to courtroom to combat the administration’s threats, it strongly implies that the legislation is on the college’s aspect.
