Joan Kennedy: A fighter to the top

Date:

I first met Joan Kennedy within the early ’60s after I was requested to escort her by way of a Boston press occasion and introduce her round, which I did. Senator Ted Kennedy was to reach later.

She was a gorgeous and delicate individual.

I discovered her to be pleasant, heat, witty, and enticing. Though not a pleasant insider or an intimate — removed from it — I met her usually on the marketing campaign path with Ted or at one of many events he used to throw for the press on the Kennedy compound in Hyannis.

She all the time confirmed nice curiosity in individuals, and it was unhappy to observe her change as she fought her habit by way of the times of wine and roses. However she was a fighter to the top.

Joan B. Kennedy, the previous spouse of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who endured a troubled marriage marked by household tragedies, her husband’s infidelities and her personal decades-long struggles with alcoholism and psychological well being, died on Wednesday. She was 89. She was a mannequin and classically-trained pianist when she married Ted Kennedy in 1958.
