Jury convicts Everett man of 2021 homecoming sport homicide

An Everett man was discovered responsible of capturing a rival as he was seated in his parked automobile outdoors a homecoming soccer sport.

A Middlesex Superior Courtroom jury after a three-week trial convicted Michael Stanton, 22, of second-degree homicide for the Oct. 22, 2021, capturing of Craig McDonald Jr., of Randolph. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on the courtroom in Woburn Wednesday at 10 a.m.

A second defendant, Luiz Perlera, is scheduled for a homicide trial starting Oct. 23 in the identical courtroom.

“This case is an example of the dangerous trend of young people illegally possessing firearms and using them to perpetrate violence in our communities,” Middlesex District Lawyer Marian Ryan stated in a written assertion following the decision. As a whole lot of scholars, households and different spectators milled across the stadium celebrating an annual soccer custom, the defendant openly tracked McDonald down in that very same neighborhood.

“When he found him, he used an illegally possessed firearm to end his life,” she continued. “This was truly a senseless tragedy. Although nothing can mitigate the harm done by this defendant, this prosecution reflects our commitment to holding accountable those who commit these violent acts.”
