They’d achieved it with “My Girl,” then with “I Can’t Get Next To You.” On April 3, 1971, they did it once more. That version of the Billboard Scorching 100 confirmed the Temptations making their third full pop crossover, as the most recent sensible Norman Whitfield/Barrett Robust composition (and Whitfield manufacturing) “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)” climbed to No.1.
