Labor group holds first Labor Day parade in Boston: ‘Workers are fed up with billionaires’

Union members rallied in Boston Monday throughout a Labor Day parade hosted by the Better Boston Labor Council.

Organizers forged the occasion as a “historic display of worker solidarity” that changed town’s customary Labor Day breakfast on the Park Plaza. GBLC President Darlene Lombos mentioned the parade was “a statement.”

“Workers are fed up with billionaires who hijack our democracy while pushing brutal cuts to the very programs that create jobs and keep our communities strong — everything from infrastructure investment to education and health care,” Lombos mentioned in an announcement.

Political figures from throughout Massachusetts joined the occasion, together with U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Gov. Maura Healey, Legal professional Basic Andrea Campbell, and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

The march began on Boston Widespread close to the State Home, after which continued to the primary public faculty within the nation on Faculty Avenue, the BlackRock company places of work on State Avenue, Faneuil Corridor on Congress Avenue, a website run by SEIU Native 32BJ on Sudbury Avenue, the JFK Federal Constructing on Sudbury Avenue, and Boston Metropolis Corridor Plaza.

The march in Boston coincided with various Labor Day-related occasions occurring throughout the nation, together with a rally in entrance of Trump Tower in New York.
