Lorde is again. The New Zealand pop celebrity has formally introduced the discharge date of her extremely anticipated new album, Virgin, arriving on June 27.
The announcement of Virgin follows final week’s launch of Lorde’s comeback single “What Was That,” co-produced by the singer, Jim-E Stack and Dan Nigro. The tune hit No. 1 on Spotify within the US, Lorde’s first high single on the streaming platform since her 2013 debut single, “Royals.” The accompanying music video was filmed in New York Metropolis, showcasing the singer assembly up with followers in Washington Sq. Park.
“THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR,” Lorde mentioned of the album in an all-caps assertion. “LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC.”
She continued: “I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM. THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE.”
The album’s collaborators embody Jim-E Stack, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro, and Dev Hynes of Blood Orange. The art work incorporates a blue X-ray of a pelvis with a zipper and an IUD seen.
Virgin marks Lorde’s first album since 2021’s Photo voltaic Energy, which hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and options singles like “Solar Power,” “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” “Mood Ring,” and “Fallen Fruit.” Not too long ago, the singer’s “Ribs” single from 2013’s Pure Heroine grew to become a trending music on TikTok.
