Man convicted of killing Boston cabbie in Again Bay broad daylight capturing

A 40-year-old man has been convicted of killing a cab driver within the Again Bay in a broad daylight capturing that shocked cabbies.

Rhode Island man Phillip Foy has been discovered responsible by a Suffolk County jury of first-degree homicide for the deadly capturing of Dorchester 60-year-old man Luckinson Oruma on June 4, 2019.

Oruma, who was working as a cab driver in Boston on the day of his homicide, had parked his taxi in entrance of the Colonnade Lodge on Huntington Avenue.

Foy bought into the cab and requested for a journey to Mansfield. Oruma, a father of 5, declined the fare.

“You’re going to move this cab or I’ll move you,” Foy informed Oruma close to the Prudential Middle, in response to prosecutors.

Foy then bought out of the cab, opened the motive force’s aspect door, and assaulted Oruma for refusing to drive him all the way down to Mansfield, prosecutors stated.

Sooner or later in the course of the assault, Foy pulled out a gun and shot Oruma, who fell to the bottom. Foy stood over Oruma and fired straight at him. Oruma sustained 9 bullet wounds.

Foy then bought into the cab, drove down Huntington Avenue, turned onto Ring Highway and parked. He emptied and discarded the gun and journal, eliminated his sneakers, and sat in entrance of a close-by Starbucks.

When police arrived, Foy grabbed a pedestrian and tried to protect himself. Police subtle the scenario and arrested Foy, who confessed to capturing Oruma however claimed it was in self-defense.

“The shooting death of Luckinson Oruma was shattering not just for his family and friends, but for anyone who goes to work each day expecting, as they should, to be in a safe environment,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden stated in a press release.

“This defendant turned Mr. Oruma’s environment into something tragically different, and I’m very grateful that the jury held him accountable for his devastating actions,” Hayden stated.
