Man dies at Park Avenue Station after making contact with electrified third rail, MBTA police say

Date:

A person died Saturday at Park Avenue Station after he fell into the pit and made contact with the electrified third rail, based on MBTA Transit Police.

The person, who police stated seemed to be impaired or “under the influence of some intoxicant,” was unsteady on his toes and standing on a southbound platform round midday when he “stumbled” onto the tracks, based on police.

He was pronounced useless on account of the contact with the electrified rail, police stated.

“Transit Police detectives are investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident and foul play is not suspected,” MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan stated in an announcement. “On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization, we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends.”
