Mariah Carey’s mother, Patricia Carey, and older sister, Alison Carey, died on the identical day over the weekend, the singer confirmed to Individuals journal on Monday.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” the Grammy-winner advised Individuals in a press release.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
The “Emotions” singer didn’t present any extra particulars about her mom’s or sister’s explanation for demise.

Within the memoir, Mariah Carey additionally wrote about how her relationship along with her elder siblings — brother Morgan Carey and sister Alison Carey — was advanced, saying that it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with both of them on the time.
The legendary pop star ended up together with her mom within the memoir’s opening dedication, writing, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”
