Two correction officers had been stabbed by inmates at Souza Baranowski Correctional Middle Wednesday night, in keeping with the state’s Division of Correction.
Three different correction officers had been reportedly injured within the incident, and all 5 officers had been transported to close by hospitals for medical therapy.
This reported assault on the Massachusetts most safety jail comes after the correction officers’ union stated dozens of “homemade sharpened weapons” had been discovered contained in the jail final month. The union has continued to push for extra security measures.
“Someone is going to get hurt,” Dennis Martin, the president of the union, not too long ago instructed the Herald concerning the weapons. “It’s a scary time we’re in now.”
On Wednesday night, the Massachusetts Division of Correction obtained a report of a number of injured correction officers inside Souza Baranowski.
“Two correction officers were assaulted by incarcerated individuals and sustained multiple stab wounds,” a DOC spokesperson stated in an announcement. “Three additional correction officers were injured when responding to the incident.
“A total of 5 correction officers were transported to nearby hospitals where they are receiving medical treatment,” the spokesperson added. “The facility is secure at this time while an investigation is conducted to determine the facts and circumstances. The Department of Correction has notified the Massachusetts State Police of the incident.”
Final month, the 38 manufactured weapons seized in Souza Baranowski got here after a jail guard was uncovered to an artificial cannabinoid and knocked unconscious, ending up within the hospital.
The Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union has been sounding the alarm following the officer’s hospitalization and a string of comparable incidents — urging the Division of Correction to implement an “exposure policy” for when officers are uncovered to artificial medicine.
The Division of Correction not too long ago stated the state company was near a brand new coverage for when publicity incidents occur.
