An inmate who was accused of a “brutal attack” on a correction officer at MCI-Shirley has pleaded responsible to the vicious assault.
Roy Sales space, 42, pleaded responsible on Friday in Middlesex Superior Court docket to fees of mayhem and armed assault with intent to homicide.
Middlesex Superior Court docket Choose Catherine Ham sentenced Sales space to 13-15 years at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Middle, a maximum-security jail.
That sentence can be served consecutively with a life sentence, which he’s serving in Virginia on a homicide conviction.
“Roy Booth’s brutal attack on Corrections Officer Matthew Tidman highlights the dangers that law enforcement, specifically Corrections Officers, face in their day-to-day work,” Middlesex DA Marian Ryan mentioned in a press release.
“No one should have to fear for their life in their workplace,” Ryan added. “Fortunately, Corrections Officer Tidman, having suffered horrendous injuries, and against all odds, survived this terrifying attack.”
On Aug. 31, 2022, Sales space used a steel pole to relentlessly beat Tidman.
Sales space, throughout recreation time, took the pole from the load room part of the gymnasium and hid it by his aspect till he attacked Tidman from behind. He solely stopped the assault as soon as he was bodily restrained by different officers.
Sales space had been transferred from Virginia to jail in Massachusetts in 2021. He was transferred again to a Virginia state jail following the assault.
Final month at Souza-Baranowski, two correction officers have been stabbed by inmates at Souza Baranowski. Three inmates have been charged for that assault.
