A Brazilian girl who’s the mom of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew has been detained by ICE and is in deportation proceedings after her Nov. 12 arrest close to Boston, CNN reported Wednesday.
Bruna Caroline Ferreira had stayed nicely past a vacationer visa that expired in June 1999 and was beforehand arrested for battery, a Homeland Safety spokesperson instructed the information community.
Ferreira’s lawyer, Todd Pomerleau, stated Ferreira is in a “lawful immigration process” for U.S. citizenship after beforehand receiving safety from Deferred Motion for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) insurance policies. In President Donald Trump’s first administration, she was unable to resume her standing, based on CNN.
Ferreira and Leavitt, the White Home press secretary, haven’t had contact in a few years, a supply acquainted with the matter instructed HuffPost.
A supply instructed NBC that Ferreira by no means resided with Leavitt’s nephew and had not spoken with him in years.
However Ferreira’s lawyer instructed CNN that she was arrested whereas en path to choosing up the boy. She is being held in a Louisiana detention facility.

“Bruna has no criminal record whatsoever,” Pomerleau instructed WMUR. “I don’t know where that is coming from. Show us the proof. There’s no charges out there. She’s not a criminal, illegal alien, we’re hearing that said about anyone who’s not a U.S. citizen. .. She should not be sitting in a jail hours away from her family and from her child’s life. She’s a great mom.”
The White Home press secretary’s brother, Michael Leavitt, who lives in New Hampshire along with his spouse and two sons, instructed WMUR that Ferreira has stored up a relationship with their youngster, who’s 11.
He stated he was principally involved along with his son’s security, WMUR reported.
The story was first reported by public broadcaster WBUR, based on NBC. Karoline Leavitt declined to remark to the station.
The press secretary has been a strident mouthpiece for Trump in his immigration crackdown.
