NWSL Boston workforce rebrands itself after backlash

After unfavorable public response to its preliminary title, the Hub’s new skilled girls’s soccer workforce has rebranded itself as Boston Legacy Soccer Membership.

The title change follows backlash to the Nationwide Girls’s Soccer League growth workforce’s “Too Many Balls” marketing campaign and comes after “five months of fan listening, research and consultation,” the workforce introduced on Wednesday.

“Our name is just the beginning,” membership controlling proprietor Jennifer Epstein mentioned in an announcement. “It’s what we build together, through dedication, commitment and grit that will give it life.”

The brand new title, per the workforce assertion, retains the deal with Boston whereas invoking each its lengthy historical past and its significance as a hub of future innovation. The brand new soccer membership goals to create its personal legacy in a metropolis with many years of sporting legacy.

“We aim for our values to reflect a city that breathes competition, passion and pride, and to pay tribute to those who paved the way before us, including the gamechangers who helped build previous women’s professional teams in Boston,” Epstein mentioned. “We are also focused on the future, for the next generation of players and fans who will carry forward what we build today.”

The workforce, owned by Boston Unity Soccer Companions and slated to take the pitch at a rehabbed White Stadium in March 2026, introduced plans for the title change at a watch occasion for the beginning of the NSWL common season earlier this month.

The change comes after unfavorable fan response to its prior title, BOS Nation FC, and backlash to its accompanying “Too Many Balls” marketing campaign.

The video accompanying that marketing campaign launch included cameos from Boston sports activities gamers, previous and current, and messaging “playfully pointing out that in a city filled with championships, its sports heroes need not all be male.”
