An individual died after reportedly stumbling onto the T tracks earlier than getting struck by an Orange Line prepare Friday afternoon in Boston, police stated.
MBTA Transit Police responded to the Jackson Sq. station for the deadly incident early Friday afternoon.
“An adult apparently stumbled and fell into the right of way and was struck by an incoming MBTA OL train,” a Transit Police spokesperson stated in an announcement.
“The individual has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained,” the spokesperson added. “TPD detectives are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Investigators don’t suspect foul play.
“On behalf of the TPD and the entire MBTA organization we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and loved ones,” the spokesperson stated.
At 12:29 p.m., the MBTA on social media alerted the general public to a “medical emergency” at Jackson Sq..
“Orange Line: Service between North Station and Forest Hills is standing by due to a medical emergency at Jackson Square,” the T posted. “Riders downtown can use the Green Line for alternate service between North Station and Copley.”
“Orange Line Update: Shuttle Buses continue to replace service while Transit Police conduct their investigation at Jackson Square,” the T later posted at 2:27 p.m. “Commuter Rail is free to ride between South Station, Back Bay, Ruggles, and Forest Hills.”
