Randolph Police Sgt. Scott Sherman was killed whereas off-duty when he was struck by a commuter rail practice in Abington on Sunday, authorities introduced Monday.

Scott Sherman, who tragically died while off duty in Abington on Sunday night,” wrote Randolph Police Chief Anthony Marag. “Sgt. Sherman was a highly respected and dedicated member of our department, serving the Randolph community with honor and integrity for many years.”
At about 8 p.m. Sunday, Transit Law enforcement officials had been known as to an emergency dispatch by a commuter rail practice reporting a pedestrian hit at Birch Road railroad crossing east of the intersection of North Avenue and Railroad Road in Abington, the Plymouth County DA reported.
The male sufferer, recognized as Sherman, 56, was pronounced useless by an Abington Fireplace first responder on the scene.
Investigators from Abington Police, MBTA police, and State Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
