Vice President Kamala Harris mentioned Tuesday that she hopes former President Donald Trump will meet her on the talk stage later this 12 months regardless of his obvious efforts to skip out on these plans now that she’s the Democrats’ presumptive nominee to face him in November.
Harris rallied a crowd of 10,000 supporters in Atlanta on Tuesday, her first go to to Georgia after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and cleared the best way for her marketing campaign.
“This is a people-powered campaign, in fact … the momentum in this race is shifting, and there are signs that Donald Trump is feeling it,” the vice chairman mentioned. “You may have noticed.”
Trump has now repeatedly expressed doubt about collaborating within the subsequent debate, scheduled for Sept. 10 on ABC Information. And whereas he mentioned Monday he would “probably” debate Harris in some unspecified time in the future, he added that “everyone is aware of who I’m,” suggesting a debate look might not profit him.
In Atlanta, Harris hit the previous president for backing out of these plans, repeating her ding that Trump and his working mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, had been “just plain weird” and had a “lot to say about me.”
“Here’s the funny thing about that,” Harris mentioned. “So he won’t debate, but he and his running mate sure seems they have a lot to say about me.”
“Well, Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage,” she mentioned, “because as the saying goes, if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.”
Harris has catapulted into the marketing campaign over the previous 10 days, elevating greater than $200 million and signing up greater than 170,000 volunteers. And up to date polls have proven her closing the hole in most swing states.
