In one of many surest indicators of spring but, crews on the Public Backyard set to work Monday assembling the beloved Swan Boats for a season of leisurely cruising the park’s lagoon.
The Swan Boats formally open on Saturday, when Mayor Michelle Wu and her household are due for a float via the lagoon at 11 a.m., together with a gaggle of scholars from Boston’s colleges.
The long-lasting boats date again to 1877 when Roger Paget launched them alongside the rowboat rental enterprise he was operating within the Public Backyard.
Almost 150 years later, the Paget household continues to be sustaining the enterprise, and the boats. The oldest has been in service for 115 years. Following Monday’s meeting, the boats are open once more for the general public to take pleasure in on Saturday.
