Shawn Mendes supplied a candid tackle his sexuality this week, telling followers at a live performance that he’s “just figuring it out like everyone” whereas steering away from conventional labels.
The three-time Grammy nominee broached the topic whereas introducing “The Mountain,” an as-yet-unreleased tune that may seem on his forthcoming album, “Shawn.”
“You can say I’m too young, you can say I’m too old,” Mendes sings on the monitor. “You can say I like girls or boys, whatever fits your mold.”

After noting that his objective was, merely, to “just allow myself to be a human,” he concluded: “That’s all I really want to say about that for now.”
Publicly, Mendes has solely been in relationships with girls. He dated Camila Cabello ― with whom he collaborated on the smash 2019 single, “Señorita” ― for about two years earlier than the pair break up in 2021. Since then, there was tabloid hypothesis that he’s relationship fellow singer Sabrina Carpenter, although the timeline of that as-yet unconfirmed relationship is unclear.

However as Mendes hinted in his live performance speech, he’s been dogged by rumors over his sexuality for a while.
“I thought, ‘You fucking guys are so lucky I’m not actually gay and terrified of coming out,’” he informed Rolling Stone after studying by web feedback that urged he was secretly homosexual or bisexual. “That’s something that kills people. That’s how sensitive it is. Do you like the songs? Do you like me? Who cares if I’m gay?”
Later in that interview, he continued to shrug off the net chatter: “Maybe I am a little more feminine — but that’s the way it is. That’s why I am me.”
