The Les Paul Basis has introduced the 2025 recipient of the Les Paul Spirit Award: Steve Miller. The award shall be introduced to the Rock and Roll Corridor of Fame inductee on Monday, June ninth at a personal occasion held on the Gibson Storage Nashville. The ceremony will happen on what would have been Paul’s one hundred and tenth birthday.
The annual award is introduced to a person who exemplifies the spirit of Les Paul by way of innovation, engineering, expertise and/or music. Along with the award, a grant from the Les Paul Basis shall be made within the honoree’s identify to the charity of his alternative. Miller is the fifth recipient of the annual award, becoming a member of Bob Weir of Grateful Useless, Nile Rodgers, U2’s The Edge and Peter Frampton.
“I cannot think of anyone more deserving to be honored with the Les Paul Spirit Award than Steve Miller,” shared Michael Braunstein, Government Director of The Les Paul Basis. “Not only is he an extraordinary talent and a wonderful friend of the Les Paul Foundation, Steve holds the very distinct title of being Les’ godson. They had a very unique relationship which Les cherished. If anyone understands the ‘spirit’ of Les Paul, it’s Steve. If Les were still alive today, Steve and he would be jamming at his house regularly.”
Les Paul was a detailed pal of the Miller household, with Steve’s father even appearing as the very best man at Paul’s wedding ceremony. It was Paul who gave a younger Steve his first casual guitar classes and taught him his first three chords. They couldn’t have imagined that a few years later, in 2005, Miller would be a part of Paul on stage at his ninetieth birthday live performance in New York Metropolis.
The award that shall be introduced to Miller is constituted of precise hand-carved acoustic boards constructed by Paul that he utilized in his dwelling studio. Due to the distinctive nature of the fabric, no two Les Paul Spirit Awards are precisely the identical.
