Tears For Fears’ Songs From the Large Chair is celebrating its fortieth anniversary. A variety of expanded editions on vinyl, streaming, and CD arrive on November 14 through UMR Information and can be found for pre-order now.
Tears For Fears’ second document, Songs From The Large Chair, was initially launched on February 25 1985. It went on to high the US charts and produce 5 hit singles: “Mothers Talk,” “Shout,” “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” “Head Over Heels,” and “I Believe.”
A Restricted Version 2LP clear pink vinyl options the unique unused paintings and tracks beforehand unavailable on vinyl, together with “Shout (Alternative Mix),” “The Working Hour (Piano Version),” “Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Alternative Single Version),” “Mothers Talk (Early Mix),” “Broken (Demo),” and “Listen (Clean Intro).” The multi-platinum album’s authentic tracklist is offered in full on a restricted version 1LP Coke Bottle Clear vinyl and a restricted 1 LP image disc. A 3CD deluxe set options the unique album and b-sides. Disc two is titled “Edited Songs From The Big Chair” whereas disc 3 is “Remixed Songs From The Big Chair.”
Songs From The Large Chair was the followup to the band’s 1983 debut The Hurting, which yielded anthems corresponding to “Mad World,” “Change,” and “Pale Shelter.”
1989’s Seeds of Love was the final collaboration between Roland Orzabal (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Curt Smith (vocals, bass, keyboards) till 2004’s Everyone Loves A Completely satisfied Ending. They launched a “Best Of” assortment in 2017, Rule the World, and in 2022 returned with their first studio album in 17 years, The Tipping Level. In October 2024, Tears for Fears launched Songs for a Nervous Planet, that includes eighteen dwell tracks recorded on the FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee on July 11, 2023, one of many dates on their Tipping Level World Tour.
