Social media persona Kayla Nicole is talking out after homophobic and racially insensitive posts she shared on X greater than a decade in the past re-emerged on-line within the type of screenshots.
“I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for the hurtful tweets I posted so many years ago,” she wrote in a Nov. 13 Instagram Story. “Seeing them resurface last week has been incredibly difficult, and reading them now, I’m ashamed that I ever thought or spoke that way. They were ignorant, hurtful and completely wrong.”
Noting that she would “never use those words or express those kinds of views” within the current, she continued, “Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how cruel and harmful online hate can be, and I would never want to add to that world of pain in any form.”
The offensive tweets had been made between 2010 to 2014, with screenshots of the tweets being shared on X, previously Twitter.
Nicole mentioned she has since deleted the posts in addition to her X account, citing that she “refuse[s] to keep that energy alive or contribute to a cycle of hate.”
“I take full responsibility for what I posted, and I’m truly sorry to anyone I may have hurt. My heart, values, and perspective are completely rooted in empathy, love, and respect for others.”
Telling her 984,000-plus followers that she “can’t change the past,” she wrapped up her message by including, “I will continue showing through my actions who I’ve become and what I stand for today.”
